Young man beaten to death in Jessore

Jessore: A young man was beaten to death at Noali village under Monirumpur upazila of Jessore on Friday night.

Opponents beat him when a reception was progressing in honour of newly elected UC Chairman at Noali village under Mosshimnagar union in Monirampur upazila of the district on Friday night, reports BSS.

The victim, Raju Hossain Gazi, 25, was son of Golam Mustafa of Talsari village under Monirampur upazila.

Police and victim's relatives said, a reception followed by cultural function was arranged for Mosshimnagar Union Parishad's newly elected Chairman, Krishak League leader, Abul Hossain on Friday night.

Raju was present there and an altercation took place between Raju and BNP activists over a trivial incident. BNP activists assaulted Raju with his torch light and iron road and he was critically injured.

Local people took Raju to Jessore Sadar Hospital for treatment where doctor declared him dead at about 11:00pm.

Monirampur police officer-in-charge Taherul Islam confirmed the incident.

Number of police force in the area has been increased to avoid further incident.
