Sirajganj: A young man was died after being severely beaten by miscreants at Belkuchi in Sirajganj in the early hours of Monday.

The deceased is Joy Hossain, 24, a resident of Tamai village of the upazila.

Belkuchi police officer-in-charge (OC) Anisur Rahman said Joy used to attend a gathering of self-styled ‘pir’ Batin Ali’s followers. A group of people beat Joy up at the gathering at about 10:00pm on Sunday.

Local people went to the spot and took him to Belkuchi Health Complex.

Joy died undergoing treatment at the health complex at about 3:00pm.

The body was kept at Belkuchi police station.

Police arrested a man called Baten from the spot.

The OC said a case was filed with Belkuchi police in this connection.
