Dhaka: Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Tuesday said ruling party Awami League would form a committee to investigate alleged nomination trade centring the party’ s candidacies in the union council elections.

‘If anyone doesn’t get party nomination, she/he raises allegations of nomination trade or calling them (the aspirant who got party nomination) war criminals. There is more propaganda about the matter than reality,’ he said.

Quader, also an AL presidium member, said this while addressing a meeting of the party’s Sub-committee on Stage and Decoration formed ahead of the Awami League’s 20th national council at a community centre at Dhanmondi in the North city of Dhaka.

‘We have decided to form a committee to investigate the matter. The committee will examine the allegations about nomination trade. If any allegation is true, no one will be spared,’ he added.

About the council to be held on July 10 and 11, the AL leader said the new council is the renewal of a dream. ‘It is a matter of change regarding all aspects. There will be a change in declaration as well as party charter according to the demand of the time in the council.’

The minister said that a number of new faces will be inducted in the party through the council.

‘According to the desire of the nation and keeping consistency with the Digital Bangladesh vision, some new faces will be inducted apart from the experienced leaders,’ he added.
