Magura: A supporter of the newly-elected chairman at Charjoka village of Sripur upazila in Magura was hacked to death, police said, by the men of defeated party on Monday morning.

The district superintendent of police Mohammad Tariqul Islam Tariq said the deceased is Babul, supporter of an Awami League candidate of the union council election.

Bablu’s cousin Shariful, who is also a supporter of defeated chairman candidate Yusuf Mondol, killed him at about 9:45am, claimed the SP.

He said a group of man led by Shariful killed Bablu as he used to support the Awami League candidate Halim Molla.

Two people injured during the murder were taken to Magura Sadar Hospital, added Islam.

He said miscreants were looting houses immediately after the murder.

Police is trying to bring the situation under control.
