Lakshmipur: A local Juba League leader, who was injured in a clash between two rival groups of the ruling party Awami League (AL) over establishing supremacy at Haiderganj Bazar in Raipur upazila on Friday, died at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) in the early hours of Tuesday.

The deceased is Manu Miah, publicity secretary of the Ababil union unit of the youth front of the ruling Awami League and son of Anar Ullah, a resident of Char Pangashia village of the same upazila.

He died undergoing treatment at the hospital, Juba League president of the same union Koisik Ahmed said.

Three people, including Manu were injured in a clash between two groups of Awami League activists at Haiderganj Bazar in Raipur upazila on Friday afternoon over establishing supremacy.

Locals said two groups of the ruling party—one led by joint secretary of Raipur upazila Awami League Jafar Ullah Dulal Hawladar and the other by Shahid Ullah—had long been at loggerheads over establishing their dominance in the locality.

On Friday, supporters of Jafar attacked Shahid Ullah in front of the union council office.

Following the attack, Shahid’s men gave a tremendous trashing to Manu Miah, a supporter of Jafar group, leaving him critically injured.

On information, police rushed in and brought the situation under control.

Raipur police officer-in-charge M Manjurul Haq Akhand confirmed the incident.
