Man injured in attack dies at RMCH

Kushtia: A man, who received injuries in an attack by unknown miscreants over a longstanding dispute at Fakirabad in Bheramara upazila of Kushtia on Monday night, died at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) early on Wednesday, reports UNB.
The deceased is Mizanur Rahman.
The Bheramara Model police officer-in-charge Nur Islam said a group of miscreants intercepted Mizanur and his elder brother Mojibur, a former headmaster (teacher) of Fakirabad Government Primary School, near Fakirabad Roni Jam-e-Mosjid on their way home after saying Isha prayers at about 9:00pm on Monday.
The attackers hacked them with sharp weapons indiscriminately, leaving Mojibur dead on the spot and Mizanur critically injured.
Mizanur was first admitted to Kushtia General Hospital from where he was shifted to RMCH where he died early in the morning.
Nur Hossain Khandakar said the victim might have been killed by his rivals over a previous enmity.
Victim’s family sources, however, said Ariful Islam Arif, a resident of the village, used to tease a granddaughter of Mojibur.
On Monday, police arrested Arif on the basis of a complaint lodged by Mojibur to the Bheramara upazila nirbahi officer but he was later released following ‘pressure from the higher authorities’.
Arif later launched the attack on the two siblings as they protested stalking, they alleged.
Arif and his family members went into hiding after the incident, the OC said.
A murder case was filed accusing eight people, including Arif, with Bheramara police station.
