Every upazila to get ‘model mosque’: PM
Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday said the government had undertaken a plan to establish a ‘model mosque’ in every upazila.
‘Two (architectural) designs of the model mosque have been outlined and after finalisation of the design, the work of the mosque would begin Insha Allah,’ she said.
The Leader of the House informed this while replying to a starred question from Awami League lawmaker Gazi MM Amzad Hossain Milon (Sirajganj-3) in parliament during her question-answer session.
Sheikh Hasina said the Islamic Foundation, established by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, has taken the initiatives to build a model mosque in every upazila.
‘The (model) mosque would be run the way the current mosques are conducted, while the salary and allowances of the model mosques would come in the existing rules,’ she said.
The Premier said her government has constituted an Imam-Muazzin Welfare Trust for their welfare and they are getting financial assistance from it.
‘Besides, we are implementing a ‘mosque-based education programme’ in huge number of mosques across the country and those who teach the students in those mosque get an allowance through the programme,’ she said.
