ACC arrests 2 over BASIC Bank loan scam

Jamalpur: The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) arrested two businessmen from Jamalpur town on early Saturday in connection with Tk70 crore loan scam at BASIC Bank, reports UNB.
The arrestees are M Sarwar Jahan and his brother Shamim Ahmed Suja, directors of MRL Auto Bricks in Jamalpur.
An ACC team, led by its deputy director M Ibrahim, also investigation officer of the case, arrested Sarwar and Shamim from Sankanda and Station Road areas of the district town at about 12:15am, ACC Public Relations Officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told UNB.
Earlier, the anti-graft watch dog also arrested Syed Hasibul Goni, a director of the company, in the same case.
The ACC filed a case against 14 people, including bank officials and businessmen, with Paltan Police Station in the capital on 23 September last year for misappropriating Tk 70 crore from the capital’s Shantinagar branch of the bank.
