HC rule on publishing freedom fighters list

Dhaka: The High Court on Wednesday issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain as to why releasing the final list of the freedom fighters without determining the definition of freedom fighters would not be declared illegal.
The court asked the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs secretary, law secretary, and public administration ministry secretary to respond to the rule within four weeks.
A High Court bench comprising Justice Mirza Hossain Haider and Justice Khijir Ahmed issued the order in response to a petition submitted by freedom fighter SM Sohrab Hossain.
The application of SM Sohrab Hossain says earlier several freedom fighters were missed out from the freedom fighters list as governments issued lists without providing the definition of ‘freedom fighter’. Fake freedom fighters were also included in the list.
SM Sohrab’s petition also sought the list of actual freedom fighters.
Barrister Rafiqur Rahman was present during the session on behalf of the petition and deputy attorney general Al Amin was the prosecution lawyer.
