Noakhali: Around 14 shops were gutted as fire broke out at Hawkers’ market of Maijdee in Noakhali in the early hours of Thursday.

Fire service said that the fire originated from electric short circuit. 

Maijdee fire service senior station officer Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman said being informed two units of Maijdee fire service and a unit of Chaumohoni fire service went to the spot at about 1:00pm and doused the fire after nearly two hours of efforts.

The traders claimed that they faced around Tk1.5crore loss due to the fire, which also damaged seven-eight motorcycles, valuable goods, clothes and others.
