AL nominates AJM Nasir for CCC poll

Chittagong: Awami League on Friday decided to endorse its Chittagong metropolitan unit general secretary AJM Nasir Uddin as a mayoral candidate for Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) election.
The decision was taken at a meeting at Ganabhaban in Dhaka in the evening, held with party President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair, Chittagong north AL general secretary MA Salam told UNB.
He said AJM Nasir was given the go-ahead signal to contest the CCC election as a mayoral candidate after a threadbare discussion on different issues with the party leaders from Chittagong.
Top party leaders -- Tofail Ahmed, Jahangir Kabir Nanok, Sheikh Selim, Abdur Razzak, its presidium member Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, Chittagong city AL president ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury, Ctg north AL president Nurul Alam were, among others, present at the meeting.
Earlier, Awami League decided to back Sayeed Khokan, son of late DCC mayor Mohammad Hanif, and Annisul Huq, a former FBCCI president, as mayoral candidates for the polls of the now bifurcated Dhaka City Corporation.
