Government cannot shirk responsibility: Khaleda Zia

Dhaka: ‘There is no chance for the government to shirk the responsibility for Salahuddin Ahmed going missing by making indecent jokes,’ said the Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson, Khaleda Zia, on Sunday.
‘No one in the country is safe and one can be abducted or get murdered at any time,’ said the BNP chairperson in a press statement.
She called on the political leaders-activists, human rights bodies, conscious citizens to mobilise protests against such position of the government.
Khaleda Zia said it became a regular incident during this ruling of Awami League that unidentified people posing as law enforcers were picking up 20-Party leaders and activists and later secretly killed and concealed their bodies.
Often leaders and activists were found dead with bullet wounds, but many families were yet to get back the bodies of their beloved ones, she added.
It is not accepted that a government in a civilised world is using law enforcers as the Gestapo [German secret police force] only to stay in power, she added.
