Panchagarh: A case has been filed over the murder of a man and his wife who were killed by their drug addict son Manjurul Hassan Shanta on Sunday afternoon in Panchagarh.

Shanta’s elder brother, Akhteruzzaman Sagar, filed the case with Panchagarh police at about 11:00pm on Sunday.

Police said Santo, in his thirties, possibly killed Mizanur Rahman and his wife Rina Parvin, both are in their sixties, over an argument in their house at Puratan Camp area in the town of Panchagarh.

Police officer-in-charge Mominul Islam said Mizanur Rahman, a retired Sugar Mills officer, and Rina Parvin were having meal when Shanto attacked them.

Policemen from the station headquarters heard the parents shouting for help as the family lives just beside the police station.

Sub-inspector Arif, assistant sub-inspector Enamul Haq and Nasima Begum, wife of constable Mahbub, went to the spot and tried to stop Shanto, but he also attacked and injured them.

Later, several other policemen rushed to the spot and caught the killer.

They took the parents to Sadar Hospital, where the doctors declared them dead.

Police recovered the bodies and sent those to Sadar Hospital morgue for post-mortem examinations.

The bodies were handed over to the family after post mortem and buried at Panchagarh central graveyard at about 11:00pm.

Hospital doctor Farhana Taslima said Nasima’s condition was critical and she was send to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for better treatment.

Moreover, sub-inspector Mohammad Babul Islam filed a case against Shanto in charges of hampering government works.
