Man to die for killing wife

Sirajganj: A Sirajganj tribunal on Monday sentenced a man to death for killing his wife in 2008.
The convict is Abdus Salam of Dohokhola village in Ullapara upazila.
The court also fined him Tk 50,000, in default, to suffer six months more rigorous imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, Salam strangled his wife Fatema Khatun to death following a family feud on November 27, 2008. Later, Abdus Salam set the body of his wife afire on the same day.
Golzar Hossain, maternal uncle of Fatema, filed a murder case accusing nine people. Police submitted chargesheet against them in 2011.
After examining the records and witnesses, Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Masudur Rahman handed down the verdict acquitting eight other accused as allegations brought against them could not be proved.
