A section in Awami League shows growing interests in picking up Mohammad Selim as Dhaka South City Corporation mayoral candidate.

Several ruling party leader have already expressed their opinion that the party should extend its support for Mohammad Selim.

Such discussion also took place in a cabinet meeting, presided over by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, on Monday.

City elections and candidacy were not included in the meeting agenda, but the issues came forward and were discussed among the members, said a minister.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina proposed to let the elections be held as people wanted to join polls. She also said it would be proved through offering the elections whether people wanted hartal or elections.

Ministers gave their opinions at the meeting. Several ministers wanted the party to pick up Mohammad Selim as Dhaka South City mayoral candidate. If Selim was nominated, the possibility of winning the polls would certainly rise.

The ministers had no dissension over nominating Ansisul Haque as the Dhaka North City mayoral candidate.

The meeting also discussed the press conference addressed by former Dhaka University vice-chancellor Emajuddin.

Earlier, possible mayoral candidate for the DSCC Sayeed Khokon went to the residence of Hazi Selim on Sunday night. But Hazi selim was not at home that time.

Sayeed Khokon, at that time, hoped that Hazi Selim will support him in the election.

Later, Hazi Selim said he was not at home as he was busy outside. Selim also expressed his hope that he himself  will be nominated from the Awami League side.
