Dhaka: Awami League Dhaka City unit organising secretary Sayeed Khokan, Independent MP Hazi Selim and four other mayoral aspirants bought nomination papers on Tuesday to contest the Dhaka South City Corporation election.

Besides, Nagorik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna, now detained in jail on sedition charge, and five others mayoral aspirants purchased nomination papers to contest Dhaka North City Corporation election.

On behalf of Manna, Atikur Rahman collected nomination paper from the DNCC returning officer’s office.

In the six days after election schedules were announced on 18 March, a total of 15 mayoral aspirants collected nomination papers from DSCC and 18 from DNCC.

Besides, 724 general councillors and 143 reserved councillor aspirants bought nomination papers from DSCC, while 434 general councillors and 86 reserved councillor aspirants from DNCC in the last six days.

On 18 March, Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad announced election schedules for DSCC, DNCC and Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) fixing vote on 28 April.

According to the schedules, the deadline for submission of nomination papers is 29 March  while the nomination papers will be scrutinised on 1 and 2 April and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is 9 April.
