Chittagong: A woman reportedly attempted to kill herself after slaughtering her two children to death at Amtali village in Lohagara upazila in the early hours of Wednesday.

The deceased are Mariam Sultana, and Yeasin.

Chumati police camp sub-inspector Nurul Islam said Rehena Begum, wife of Humayun Kabir, said to be mentally unstable, slaughtered her two children Mariam and Yeasin to death and then she tried to kill herself the same way at about 4:00am when her husband was away from the house.

Hearing groaning from the house of Rehana, local people found Rehana and her children lying on the floor.

She was admitted to Lohagara Upazila Heath Complex.

Later, with her condition deteriorating, she was shifted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).

Police recovered the bodies of the two children and sent those to CMCH morgue for autopsy.
