Dhaka: A six-member delegation of pro-BNP professionals, led by former Dhaka University vice-chancellor Emajuddin Ahmed, met Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad in his office on Wednesday ahead of elections in three city corporations.

The delegation under the banner of Shata Nagarik [a hundred citizens] committee entered the office at about 3:30pm.

The other members of the delegation are Supreme Court Bar Association president Khandaker Mahbub Hossain, Jafarullah Chowdhury, Mahbub Ullah, Abdul Hye Shikdar and Fahima Nasrin Munni.

The delegation will discuss the polls-related issues and urge the commission to create a level-playing field so that the elections can be held in a free and fair manner.

Earlier on Tuesday night, the pro-BNP professionals had a meeting at Emajuddin’s Dhaka house and decided to meet the CEC.

Though the last date for submission of nomination papers is March 29, BNP is yet to come up with any formal announcement about its joining the city elections.
