Dhaka: Police halted an Election Commission-bound procession of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) and Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (BSD) at Kadam fountain close to National Press Club, Dhaka on Wednesday.
Later, a seven-member delegation of the two parties was allowed to move towards the Election Commission to submit their letters containing six demands.
Their demands include revoking increased deposit money for the mayoral and councillor candidates, providing free voter list, exempting of tax index number (TIN) for lower income group candidates and creating suitable environment for holding the elections.
Earlier, they staged a rally in front of the Press Club with BSD general secretary Khalequzzaman in the chair.
The rally was addressed, among others, by CPB leaders Sajjad Zahir Chandan, Kafee Ratan and Sajedul Haque Rubel and BSD leaders Razequzzaman and Bazlur Rashid Firoz.
