Modi, Mamata greet Bangladesh on Independence Day

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and West Bangal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday greeted Bangladeshi people on 45th Independence Day and National Day of the country via social networking sites, Tweeter and Facebook.

The Indian Prime Minister tweeted, ‘Independence Day greetings to the people of Bangladesh, a Nation that has always been an enduring & important friend for India.’

Mamata Banarjee on her Facebook account posted, ‘today is the 45th Independence Day of Bangladesh. I am remembering Bangladesh’s architect and father of nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with respect and the martyrs of Bangladesh and India who sacrifices their lives.’

She wrote, ‘Joy Bangla, Joy Bharat.’

Mamata also Tweets, ‘Heartiest greetings to people of Bangladesh on their Independence Day. Bangabandhu’s midnight radio declaration still alive in our hearts.’

Mamata Banerjee visited Dhaka on 19-21 February. While her visit to Dhaka, Mamata discussed with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina about Tista Water sharing deal, enactment of Land Boundar Agreement and  Enclaves share by India and Bangladesh.

Indian foreign secretary Subrahmanyam Jaishankar handed over a letter from Narendra Modi to Prime Minister Sheikh during his visit to Dhaka on 2 March. Narendra Modi in his letter expressed interest to visit Bangladesh and invited Shiekh Hasina to India.
