Pabna: Samedur Rahman Mithu, the younger brother of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s special assistant Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, was released early on Thursday, hours after he was picked up by law enforcers.

Rapid Action Battalion freed Mithu, also a member of Pabna Rifles Club, after interrogation.

Shimul’s elder brother Babul Biswas said a group of armed plainclothes picked Mithu up from in front of their Kuthipara residence at about 9:30pm on Wednesday.

Asked about their identity, they introduced themselves as members of Detective Branch of police, he said, adding that district DB officer-in-charge Akaram Hossain denied arresting Mithu when they contacted him later.

Babul said Mithu returned home at about 5:30am on Thursday when he told them that he was taken to the RAB Pabna camp. He was released after interrogation there.

Contacted, RAB-12 camp commander Major Azmal Hossain said a special team of the elite force picked Mithu up for questioning and he was handed over to family later.
