6 hurt in Awami-Juba League clash

Rajshahi: At least six people were injured, two with bullets, in a clash between two rival groups of ruling Awami League and Juba League on the Bagha upazila council premises here on Friday.
Sources said the clash ensued when the supporters of Tasikul Islam, a leader of Bagha municipality unit Jubo League beat up Amir Hossain, a supporter of Abdul Kuddus, president of Bagha municipality unit Awami League, as he refused to give them Tk 20,000 toll while going to Bagha by a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at about 9:00pm.
On information, Lal Chand, another supporter of Abdul Kuddus, rushed to the spot and tried to resist them.
But the supporters of Tasikul also beat them.
When the news spread soon, supporters of Abdul Kuddus equipped with arms and weapons went to the spot.
A chase and counter chase took place among the supporters of both groups, triggering a clash.
At one stage, the clashing groups also exchanged gunshots, leaving four people injured.
Police rushed in and fired a few rounds of bullets to disperse them, leaving two people-Shamim and Ratan injured.
They were admitted to Bagha upazila health complex.
Bagha police officer-in-charge Aminur Rahman said police brought the situation under control.
A tense situation was prevailing in the area following the incident.
