Pro-AL Sayeed Khokan submits nomination

Dhaka: Ruling Awami League-backed mayoral contender Sayeed Khokan on Sunday submitted his nomination paper to contest the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) polls.
Khokan along with Awami League leaders and activists, including Abdur Razzak, Fazle Noor Taposh and Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin, submitted the nomination paper to DSCC returning officer Mihir Sarwar Morshed at about 12:25pm at Mohanagar Natya Mancha in the city.
Asked whether it is violation of the election code of conduct as he came to submit the nomination papers with a good number of party men, Khokan said the people seen with them were supporters of different councillor candidates.
Earlier in the morning, DSCC mayoral aspirants Baharan-e-Sultan Bahar, ASM Akram, Babul Sardar, Shaheen Khan, Dilip Bhadra and Shohidul Islam also submitted their nominations to Mihir Sarwar.
Four more mayoral hopefuls also submitted nomination papers earlier to Mihir Sarwar.
But no BNP leader, including party standing committee member Mirza Abbas, its finance affairs secretary Abdus Salam, international affairs secretary Asaduzzaman Ripon and assistant organising secretary Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu, now in jail in BDR mutiny case, and pro-BNP professional leader Selim Bhuiyan submitted their nomination papers as of 12:50pm.
Thirty mayoral aspirants collected nomination papers for the DSCC polls.
On 18 March, Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad announced the election schedules for DSCC, DNCC and CCC fixing voting on 28 April.
According to the schedules, the deadline for submission of nomination papers is 29 March while the nomination papers will be scrutinised on 1 and 2 April and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is 9 April.
