10 get death sentence in Rangpur double murder case
Rangpur: A Rangpur court handed down death penalty to ten people for killing two people at Taraganj upazila in Rangpur.
Rangpur district session court’s Judge Kamaruzzaman issued the order at about 1:00pm on Thursday.
The Taraganj Police Officer-in-charge Abul Latif said two people were killed following an attack by a gang of robbers on a rice-laden truck on Borati Bridge in Teromile area of Taraganj on 26 March, 2006.
The deceased are truck driver, Paresh Chandra, and his associate, Monoronjon.
Haran Chandra Ghosh, owner of the truck, filed a case in this connection.
Police filed charge sheet against 11 persons in the case. OC said three among ten convicted were present during the verdict, rest of them are absconding.
Prosecution lawyer Abdul Malek said the convicted were sent to Rangpur Central Jail.
