2 suspected Shibir men killed in Jhenaidah ‘gunfight’
Jhenaidah: Two alleged Islami Chhatra Shibir activists were killed in a reported gunfight with police at the village of Tetulbaria in Sadar upazila of Jhenaidah in the early hours of Friday.
Police said the deceased are Shahid Ali Hossain, a resident of Madanpur village of Sadar upazila in Jhenaidah, also a Kamil final year student of Siddiquia Alia Madrassa, and Anisur Rahman, a resident of Kushtia.
A team of Jhenaidah Sadar police led by Sub-inspector Prabir was patrolling in the Tetulbaria intersection area, when miscreants opened fire to them at about 2:00am. Police also fired back that triggered a gun battle and left two men dead on the spot.
The bodies were kept at Jhenaidah Sadar Morgue.
The Jhenaidah additional Superintendent of Police (SP) Ajbahar Ali Sheikh said three police constables also injured during the gunfight. They received primary treatment.
The SP said the deceased were allegedly involved in the killing of Hindu priest Ananda Gopal Ganguly.
Earlier, on 7 June, attacker slit throat of a 70-year-old Ananda Gopal Ganguly near his home in the village of Noldanga in Jhenaidah district.
