‘Forest robber’ killed in gunfight

Khulna:  A suspected leader of a forest robber gang was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police in Bojburia Char area in Sundarban in Khulna on Sunday night.

The deceased is Al Amin, in his twenties, a resident of Sadar upazila and believed to be the chief of a forest robber gang , ‘Al Amin Bahini’ of Sundarban.

Members of the Detective Branch (DB) of Khulna police conducted a drive in Amadi Bridge area at about 7:00am and detained Al Amin.

Later, police took Al Amin to Bojburia Char area to recover firearms and to arrest other members of the pirate gang.

Sensing the presence of police, associates of Al Amin opened fire on them, prompting the law enforcers to fire back, triggering a gunfight.

Al Amin was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot at about 8:30pm while his associates fled from the spot.

Police recovered three rifles, three pistols, one air-gun, 119 rifle bullets and 22 pistol bullets from the spot.
