Jhenaidah: A 'Shibir leader' was killed in a gunfight with police at north Kastsagra village in Sadar upazila on early Saturday.

The deceased is Ibnul Islam Parvez, 29, son of Jahangir Hossain of Bonanipara area of the town.

Sadar Police officer-in-charge Hafizur Rahman said a team of police launched a drive there at about 3:00am. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, some terrorists opened fire on them, prompting the police personnel to retaliate that triggered a gunfight.

At one stage, Parvez was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while the others managed to flee the scene.

Two policemen were injured in the gunfight. They were admitted to Jhenaidah Sadar hospital, the OC added.

Police also recovered some locally made firearms, one pistol and three bullets from the spot.

Ibnul Parvez was the former president of Jhenaidah town Chattra Shibir, and he remained missing for a few days,  said his relatives.
