Dhaka: Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said on Sunday the death of the Japanese citizens, who were officials of the ongoing Metrorail Project, in the militant siege in a Dhaka café will not affect the project.

The minister said this while monitoring activities of the vigilance teams and BRTA mobile court in the Syadabad Bus terminal.

The militant attack on the Gulshan’s restaurant was a part of the global terrorism, he noted.

The Japanese government is also aware about it and a team from JICA has already arrived in Dhaka and Bangladesh government will discuss the situation with them, the minister said.

Seven Japanese citizens who were killed in the Gulshan restaurant attack are Ogasawara, Tanaka Hiroshi, Shakai Yuku, Kurusaki Nubuhiri, Okamura Makato, Shimudhuira Rui, and Hashimato Hideiko.

The Japanese government is planning to send a plane to Bangladesh on Sunday evening to bring family members of the victims.

Chief Cabinet Secretary of Japan Yoshihide Suga said the plane will also carry staff from the foreign ministry, the Japanese development agencies and the companies the victims worked for.

One Japanese national survived the incident with a gunshot wound.

All eight were working for three Tokyo-based consulting firms on a Japanese government-funded infrastructure project.
