Gulshan attackers students of reputed institutions
Police have disclosed the names and images of five out of the six attackers who were killed during joint forces’ ‘Operation Thunderbolt’ at a Spanish restaurant at Gulshan in Dhaka.
The terrorists held hostage a good number of people inside the restaurant after launching an attack there on Friday night.
According to police headquarters, five of the attackers were identified as Akash, Bikash, Don, Badhon, and Ripon while identity of the rest one could not be confirmed.
Islamic State (IS) also posted the images of five killers on Saturday through their Amaq news agency, said SITE Intelligence Group.
However, police have not disclosed the detailed identities of either of the six dead or the one alive who was detained during the operation.
However, the names given by police do not go with the names identified in social media by classmates and others who knew them.
After the images were disclosed, friends of those attackers and people who knew them started identifying them through social media.
Even the Facebook IDs of the attackers were disclosed.
According to those identities disclosed in social media on of the attackers is Nibras Islam, a student of North South University. Friend of Nibras identified him after his photo was disclosed.
Another Meer Saameh Mubasheer, a Scholastica student, was missing since March before his A-Level examination.
Many identified Rohan Imtiaz, another attacker, as son of a politician. He was seen with his father in several images. He was also a Scholastica student.
Riyan Minhaj was another militant who completed his Honour’s degree from Monash University in Malaysia. He was a student of Aga khan School earlier.
Many other pictures of the militants are being found in social networking sites.
Twenty hostages—nine Italians, seven Japanese, one Indian, one Bangladeshi American and two Bangladeshis—were killed in the terror attack at Holey Artisan Bakery in Gulshan on Friday night.
Besides, two senior police officers-Banani Police Station Officer-in-charge Salauddin Ahmed Khan and Detective Branch assistant commissioner Robiul Islam-were killed when they tried to rescue the hostages.
OC Salauddin was laid to eternal rest at Banani Graveyard in Dhaka, while AC Robiul was buried at her village home in Manikganj.
