BNP leader killed in Satkhira ‘gunfight’ with cops
A local BNP leader was killed in a ‘gunfight’ between his cohorts and police at Chorakhal in Shyamnagar upazila of Satkhira on early Sunday.
The deceased is identified as Wali Ullah Mollah of Kashimari village in Shyamnagar upazila. He was the general secretary of Kashimari Union Parishad unit of BNP, reports UNB.
Shyamnagar Police Station Sub-inspector Shudhangshu Shekhor said he along with a team of police was patrolling at Kashimari Union Parishad at night.
As they reached Chorakhal, they found a group of men heading towards Satkhira riding a motorcycle around 3:30am, Shekhor gave them a signal to stop.
Denying the police signal, some members of the gang hurled crude bombs and opened fire towards the law enforcers, leaving two constables injured.
In retaliation, police also opened fire when Wali received a bullet and died on the spot.
Police seized a motorcycle, one pistol and several crude bombs from the spot.
The injured policemen were sent to hospital for treatment.
