1 killed, 50 injured in Faridpur clash

A man was killed and at least 50 people were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over establishing supremacy at Muralirchar village in Boalmari upazila of Faridpur on Sunday morning.
Boalmari Police Station Sub-inspector Shahidul Islam said the two groups — one led by Alim Biswas and another by Jafar Biswas — had been at loggerheads over establishing control over the area, reports UNB.
Supporters of the two groups locked into a clash with sharp weapons and brick chips following their previous enmity at the village at about 8:30am.
At one stage of the clash, supporters of Alim Biswas hacked Salam Shikdar, one of the followers of Jafar Biswas, with a machete, leaving him dead on the spot.
Later police brought the situation under control.
The injured people were whisked off to Faridpur Medical College Hospital and Boalmari Sadar Hospital.
Additional police have been deployed at the area to ward off further trouble, SI Shahidul added.
