Rangpur: A court in Rangpur on Sunday sentenced two people to death for killing a schoolboy in Pirgachha upazila in 2011.

The convicts are Lazu Miah and Rayhan Miah of Nazor Mamud village in the upazila.

The court also sent another accused, Sabuj Miah, son of Afsaruddin, to the juvenile court for trial as he is underage, reports UNB.

According to the prosecution, the convicts strangulated Swapon, a student of Class-VI of Chowdharani High School and son of Babu Miah of Nazor Mahmud village, to death on 20 March in 2011 over a previous enmity.

Police recovered his body from a banana orchard in the area.

After examining 15 witnesses and records, Additional District and Session’s Judge Abu Zafar Mohammad Kamruzzaman handed down the verdict with the convicts standing in the dock.
