Trawler capsize death toll hits 4
Munshiganj: Rescuers have pulled four bodies from the River Meghna after a trawler carrying 50 passengers capsized on Wednesday night.
At least six passengers are still missing.
Gazria police and Daudkandi upazila fire fighters started their rescue operation from 8:00am on Thursday.
Earlier, the rescue operation was called off due to bad weather at about 2:30am.
Police said the deceased are Munia, believed to be eight-year-old, of Siddhirganj, and three unidentified young men.
The accident happened as the trawler collided with a sand-laden water vessel in Gazaria upazila, Munshiganj, around 27 kilometre south of Dhaka.
Rescuers have pulled two bodies, including a child, from the water.
Several people on board managed to swim ashore.
The Gazaria police said the passengers of the trawler were travelling to Beltali area, Matlab for joining in an urs, death anniversary.
Police also said they had started the rescue operation immediately after the accident.
