2 suspected arms traders injured in ‘gunfight’ with cops
Two suspected arms traders sustained bullet injuries during a ‘gunfight’ with police at Jalalabad in Kalaroa upazila of Satkhira on early Wednesday.
The injured arms traders were identified as Ramzan Mollah, a resident of Gharchhala village in Satkhira Sadar Upazila, and Mafizul Islam of Madra village in Kalaroa upazila.
Sub-inspector Kamal Hossain, also information officer of the district police, said being tipped off that a group of smugglers were trading arms illegally on the premises of Ekra Govt Primary School, a team of police launched a drive there at about 1:30am.
Sensing the presence of police, the smugglers hurled hand grenades towards the law enforcers, leaving two constables injured.
In retaliation, police opened fire when Ramzan and Mafizul received bullet injuries.
Later, the inured arms traders were whisked off to Satkhira Sadar Hospital.
