A Sylhet court on Wednesday issued warrants for arrest of four people, including two officials of the Department of Environment (DoE) in a graft case.

Sylhet Metropolitan Sessions Judge Akbar Hossain Mridha passed the order and fixed September 21 for next hearing.

Those facing arrest are Zillur Rahman, former deputy director of Sylhet DoE,

its former inspector Faruk Ahmed, Nurul Haq, former chairman of Mollapara union in Sadar upazila of Sunamganj district, and Nuruzzaman Dudu of Buristhol village in Sunamganj district.

At present, Zillur Rahman is deputy director of Tangail DoE while Faruk Ahmed is posted at the DoE headquarters.

According to the case statement, one Abdur Rahim of Burishtol village received an environment clearance certificate from the then deputy director of DoE and set up a saw mill on February 10, 2010.

Later, one Nuruzzaman Dudu took possession of the mill illegally.

Despite objection from Abdur Rahim, the DoE authorities renewed the environment clearance certificate in the name of Nuruzzaman Dudu in 2011, which caused a financial loss to Abdur Rahim.

Following the incident, Abdur Rahim served a legal notice to three DoE officials on March 16, 2014 and getting no response from them, he filed a case with Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate Court on June 4, 2014.

The court later asked the Anti- Corruption Commission to investigate the matter and the graft watchdog submitted charge sheet against the trio on June 5, 2015.
