An imam of a local mosque was found dead at his house at Krishnarampur village in Noakhali municipality area on Thursday night.

Sudharampur Model Police Station officer-in-charge Anwar Hossain said being informed by local people, police recovered the throat-slit body of Jahurul Haq Jahir, 50, imam of a mosque of the village, at about 11:30pm and sent it to Noakhali General Hospital morgue.

Quoting family members, police said the Imam had been suffering from mental disorder and he committed suicide by slitting his throat with a sharp weapon.

Police also recovered a sharp weapon from the spot.
