BRTC makes Tk 27cr profit in last five years

Parliament Building: Road Transport and Bridges minister Obaidul Quader said the state run Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) has made Tk 27.27 crore operating profit during the fiscal 2009-2010 to 2013-2014.
‘The BRTC has made Tk 832.33 crore operating income during the last five fiscal years, while it spent Tk 805.06 crore,’ Obaidul Quader told the parliament, while replying to a question from independent member Haji Mohammad Selim on Thursday.
Terming the BRTC as a profitable transport-operating corporation, Quader said the BRTC has earned Tk 243.11 crore during the fiscal 2013-2014, while it has spent Tk 233.53 crore against the operating earnings.
The government has also undertaken an initiative to procure 300 double decor passenger buses, 100 articulated buses and 500 trucks aimed at increasing income, he said.
Replying to another question from treasury bench member M Ayen Uddin, the minister informed the House that the government has a plan to set up driving training institute at every district of the country.
He said the state run BRTC has also maintained 18 training centres for drivers in different district headquarters across the country.
