Gazipur: Two people were killed and at least 20 injured as a nor’wester lashed Gazipur city on Thursday evening.

One of the deceased was Sirajul Islam, a human hauler driver hailing from Chittagong.   

Witnesses said Sirajul died on the spot as the wall of a house in Naujor area collapsed on him during the violent storm that blew over the area at about 5:45pm.

In Bason Sarak of the city, a construction worker died as he fell from an under-construction six-story building during the storm.

Meanwhile, at about 20 people were injured as the violent storm raged Bhogra, Maleker Bari, Jajhar and Ishwadda areas of the city in the evening, uprooting and felling trees, electric poles, and damaging shops, houses and factories.

The injured were taken to different local hospitals.

Gazipur deputy commissioner M Nurul Islam and acting city mayor Shaheed Tajuddin visited the affected areas and the hospitals.
