Khaleda Zia wants to go to power walking over dead bodies: PM

Sangsad Bhaban: Observing that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party chief has failed to carry out her movement as she did in governing the country in the past, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday said Khaleda Zia wants to go to power walking over corpses, but people would never allow her to do that.
‘Isn't she (Khaleda) a leader? You (Khaleda) want to go to power walking over dead bodies! But, the people of Bangladesh would never let it happen and accept it and that’s the reality. Those who would commit such misdeeds would never found their place in this country,’ she said.
The Leader of the House said this during her 1.20-hour winding-up speech and also her speech on the thanksgivings motion on the President’s speech on the last day of the 5th session of 10th parliament in the evening.
She said had Khaleda Zia not failed in running the movement, vengeance would not have created in the country.
‘She (Khaleda) threats, phones and allures her party men, but they didn't move a bit. So, she vented her anger and vengeance onto the common people burning and killing people,’ Hasina said adding that Khaleda has no bad feeling for them even she had not at all recalled those burned people for a single moment.
Continuing her scathing attack on the BNP chief, Hasina said Khaleda has only become successful in corruption, terrorism, militancy, anti-social activities and thus handicapping the national economy. ‘We carry out development works, but she (Khaleda) destroys everything.’
Hasina alleged that Khaleda Zia has failed to demonstrate any sublime success anywhere. ‘My question is where she (Khaleda) has been successful?’
Terming the current parliament very functional, lively and effective, the Prime Minister said this parliament has been working for the nation as well as the country hoping that the lawmakers would discharge their duties properly in the coming days.
Referring to the ongoing trial of the war criminals and crimes against humanity, the Prime Minister said the trial would continue and thus the nation would be freed from its stigma.
The Leader of the House said there has been a qualitative change between the 9th and 10th parliaments. ‘When the BNP was in opposition during the 9th parliament, the country’s people had to see badmouthing by the then BNP MPs even then opposition leader Khaleda Zia had appeared in parliament just for 10 days.’
In this connection, Sheikh Hasina thanked the current opposition leader Raushon Ershad saying that Raushon touched upon all the issues and criticized the government. ‘At least, people did have to hear badmouthing in this parliament ...the opposition party has relieved the nation of such pain.’
Turning to the continuous hartals and blockade enforced by the 20-party alliance after January 5 this year, the Prime Minister questioned what kind of politics is this. ‘If politics is in people’s interest, then why are people burned to death? Burning people to death and causing damage to public property are her (Khaleda's) character.’
Highlighting the success of her government in various fields over the last six years, the Prime Minister said that the aim of her government is to brighten the image of the country so that the country's people could live a better life.
She also urged the people of the country to become more economical in using water and electricity.
