Fisherman shot dead by pirates in Bhola
Bhola: A fisherman was shot dead and 20 others were injured in an attack by pirates on a trawler in the Bay of Bengal near Chittagong Gas Field area here on early Sunday, reports UNB.
Quoting Sareng Bashir of the trawler named ‘FB Sharmin’, police said a group of robbers opened fire on the fishermen while catching fish in the Bay of Bengal at about 3:30am, leaving Mohsin, 42, of Manpura upazila of the district, dead on the spot.
Later, the robbers looted valuables, including fish and nets and engine of the trawler, after beating up the fishermen mercilessly, leaving 20 fishermen injured.
On information, a team of police left for Hatiya to rescue the victims on Sunday morning, said Shaheen Khan, officer-in-charge of Manpura Police Station.
