An alleged robber was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Tan Mandail area of Akhaura upazila of B’baria on early Monday.

The deceased is identified as Saiful Islam.

Akhaura Police Station officer-in-charge Mosarof Hossain Tarafdar said on secret information that a gang was taking preparation for a robbery, a team of police conducted drive in the area, reports UNB.

However, sensing the presence of police, the robbers opened fire towards them, forcing the law enforcers to retaliate.

At one stage Saiful received bullet injuries and died on the spot.

Meanwhile two police members were also injured in the incident.

Police also recovered a pipe-gun and locally made sharp weapons from the spot.

Saiful was accused in five cases filed with the police station, added the OC.

Police recovered the body and sent it to Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
