Chittagong: A police officer was killed being knocked down by a truck at Bhatiari Imamnagar Taltala Bridge on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Sitakunda early Saturday.

Deceased Jan-e-Alam was assistant sub-inspector of Sitakunda industrial police and a resident of Khandakia in Hathajari.

Baro Awalia Highway police officer-in-charge said a truck ran over Alam at about 4:50am, while performing his duty, in the area when the driver lost control over the steering, leaving him dead on the spot.

Police recovered the body and sent it to Chittagong Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
