Khaleda Zia to appear before court Sunday

Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia will appear before court on Sunday over Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust cases, her lawyer Sanaullah Miah confirmed.
Khaleda Zia, former prime minister of Bangladesh, appeared in court on 24 December for the last time in the cases. She appeared seven times so far in 63 working days. She appeared three times in Dhaka Alia Madrasah’s temporary court.
The two cases are being tried in the temporary special court premises set up on Alia Madrasa ground in Bakshibazar, Dhaka.
‘As Khaleda Zia is respectful of law, she’ll appear before the Special Judge’s Court-3 on the Bakshibazar Alia Madrasah playground on Sunday,’ Khaleda’s principal counsel Sanaullah Miah told UNB.
‘She’ll seek bail after appearing before the court tomorrow,’ he said.
Khaleda Zia, who is facing an arrest warrant in the two graft cases, did not appear before the court on 4 March citing security concern.
On 25 February, the court issued a warrant for the arrest of Khaleda and two other accused in the two graft cases revoking bail as she had skipped hearings on several occasions.
Khaleda has been staying in her Gulshan office since 3 January and she has never come out of it since then, even after the death of her younger son Arafat Rahman Koko.
Khaleda Zia’s counsel Khandaker Mahbub Hossain on Thursday said his client will appear in court on Sunday provided the government ensures enough security for her.
