Thakurgaon: An elderly man was killed in a clash ensuing from at arbitration meeting over a land-related dispute at Akannopur village in Pirganj upazila of Thakurgaon on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased is Abu Taher Kalu, a resident of the village.

Pirganj Police Officer-in-charge KM Shawkat said there had been a longstanding dispute between Abu Taher and his brother over the ownership of a piece of land.

To settle the issue, both the groups sat in an arbitration meeting at Baganbari Haat at the village in the afternoon.

At one stage, a pandemonium broke out at the meeting over the disputed issue and the two groups locked in a clash that left Abu Taher critically injured.

Later he was rushed to Pirganj Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead at about 5:00pm.
