Man given life imprisonment over murder in Chittagong

Chittagong: A Chittagong court on Sunday sentenced a man to life term imprisonment and another to 10 years’ imprisonment for killing a man in 1996.
The court also fined the lifer—Ramjan Ali—Tk 1 lakh, in default, to suffer five more years in jail.
Another convict Nanaiya alias Dalya, who was sentenced to10 years’ rigorous imprisonment, was fined Tk 50,000.
According to the prosecution, the convicts killed Mohammad Lokman, a resident of Fatikchhari upazila, over previous enmity on 22 October, 1996.
A case was filed with Fatikchhari Police in this connection on 23 October, accusing five people.
Police submitted a charge sheet against the five people after investigating the incident on 20 February, 1997.
One of the accused named Nur Hossain died during the trial.
After examining witnesses and documents, Judge Munsi Abdul Majid of Chittagong Additional District and Sessions Judge Court handed down the verdict and acquitted two other accused—Nurul Alam Sawdagarh and Mohammad Yunus—of the case.
