Drone seized at Dhaka airport
Dhaka: Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate seized a drone, illegally imported from Singapore, at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Tuesday.
A CIID official said the drone could be used for carrying out subversive activities as it was modelled to carry bombs on it.
Besides, photographs of important and sensitive establishments can be taken by the drone installing cameras on it, UNB reported quoting the official who preferred not to be named.
Sources at the airport said two parcels weighing around 4 kg, were sent from Singapore through postal service by a flight of Singapore Airlines on Monday declaring those as toys.
One Saif Ali Khan of Mohammadpur in the capital was supposed to receive the parcels.
Based on secret information, the two parcels were scanned in the presence of CIID officials on Tuesday when the matter came to light.
The import of such drone is totally banned in the country according to the existing import policy.
Besides, the abuse of the drone is also a threat to the country’s security, another CIID official said, adding that the importer will be interrogated after identifying him.
