2 held in Jhenaidah for sheltering Nibras, Mubashher
Jhenaidah: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Tuesday arrested two people in Jhenaidah town on early Tuesday for giving shelter to Gulshan attackers Nibras Islam and Meer Saameh Mubashher, reports UNB.
The arrestees are Kawser Ali, owner of the mess in Sonalipara of the town, and M Rokonuzzaman, imam of Sonalipara Jam-e-mosque.
A team of RAB-6 launched a drive in Paglakani of the district town around 5:30 am and arrested the duo, said commander of the RAB unit Monir Ahmed.
Gulshan hotel attackers Nibras Islam and Meer Saameh Mubashher used to live in the mess owned by Kawser Ali and imam Rokunuzzaman is also a mess boarder, he said.
The arrestees were handed over to Sadar Police Station at night, the RAB official said.
On 1 July, gunmen stormed the Holey Artisan Bakery and took guests and employees hostage. Twenty bodies, including nine of Italians and seven Japanese nationals, were recovered from the crime spot the following day.
The crisis ended following an army-led joint forces’ operation - ‘Operation Thunderbolt’. Two policemen and six militants, including Nibras and Mubashher, were also killed.
