Man to die for killing wife in Rajshahi

Rajshahi: A man has been sentenced to death by a court here on Tuesday for killing his wife Nilufar Yeasmin at Rajarhata area in the city around four and half years back.
The convict was identified as Muzahid Ahmed, 40, son of late Anwar Hossain of Rajarhata area under Boalia Police Station.
The prosecution story, in brief, is that the accused Muzahid Ahmed beat his wife Nilufar Yeasmin indiscriminately with hammer as sequel to family feud on February 15, 2012. She was immediately rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries on the same day.
Dulal Hossain, elder brother of the victim, had lodged a case with concerned police station. On completion of investigation, police pressed charges against Muzahid Ahmed.
After examining the recorded depositions of 12 witnesses and relevant evidence Judge of Divisional Special Court Zakiya Parveen found the convict guilty and pronounced the verdict in crowded courtroom around 3.30pm. The convict was present there.
Special Public Prosecutor Shafiqul Islam Rentu conducted the case on behalf of the state while Advocate Shahidul Haque Khokan defended the accused.
