Lightning kills 6

Six people, including two children, were killed and eight others injured in separate incidents of lightning strike in Jessore, Khulna, Sunamganj and Manikganj districts on Sunday.

In Jessore, two people, including a student, were killed and four others injured as a thunderbolt struck them in the afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Nuruzzaman, a Class-VIII student of Upashahar area in the district town, and Sagar Hossain from Komarpur village in Manirampur upazila.

Hospital sources said Nuruzzaman died on the spot as he was struck by lightning while playing football with his classmates at Anirban Club ground.

On the other hand, a streak of lightening hit Sagar Hossain, Sona Miah and Sadhan Biswas at Bakra while they were going to Jhikargachha by a human-hauler, leaving Sagar dead on the spot and the two others injured.

Meanwhile, Mafur and his brother Mannan sustained injuries as a thunderbolt struck them while taking bath at Bagerhat village in Sadar upazila.

In Khulna, two people were killed and two others injured in a lightning strike in Rupsha upazila.

The deceased were identified as Abul Kashem and Tariqul Islam.

In Sunamganj, Sumon Miah of Ulipur-Bagoan village in Tahirpur upazila, was killed and Uzahid Miahand Badrul Miah were injured as a thunderbolt struck them at about 3:30pm.

Chapli Begum of Bangram in Daulatpur upazila in Manikganj, was killed as a thunderbolt struck her amid rain at about 4:00pm.
