Bagerhat: A man, Billal, was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Sharankhola in Bagerhat in the early hours of Monday.
Police claimed, Billal, in his thirties, was the chief of a forest robber gang, ‘Billal Bahini’, also a resident of North Soralia village of Morelganj.

The Sharankhola police said Billal’s assistant opened fire to police as they raided at Panighat area near the Rivar Bhola at about 3:30am.

The forest robbers retreated as police fired back. Later police recovered a body from the spot. Some locals identified the body as leader of Billal Bahini.

Police also held an injured, Farhad Munshi, a resident of Baruikhali village, after the ‘shootout’ and recovered three firearms and 500 bullets from the spot.
